About Us
Welcome to Monarchies Butterfly Blog! We are an eco friendly site that releases and raises lots monarchs every year! Get the latest news about monarchs and all the details right here! We supply information that others might not and things you never may have thought of before! The Monarchies Team first came together when my mother bought me 3 pots of milkweed at B&B that came with 2 caterpillars. I raised those caterpillars with so much curiousity and devotion that I named them Survivor (for surviving the bumpy car ride home) and Lawnmower (because it ate leaves like crazy as a caterpillar). One day Survivor disappeared for an unknown reason but Mower stayed around and formed its chrysalis inside my butterfly cage (we moved it off the milkweed when it started to crawl off because they make their chrysalis 10 feet from the home milkweed). Sadly, the chrysalis fell off one day and we though it had died. I discovered that if it falls off and doesn't have any green liquid it is probably fine. It stayed in there for a few weeks without hatching and went past it's expected due date of 10 days (which we figured out isn't true for all monarchs). We came home one day and there was Mower, proud as ever flapping her wings out to dry! The next day we put her outside to have her fly only to discover that she couldn't fly due to a crease in her wing! Back into the butterfly domain went Mower who was fed watermelon and orange and did her daily flying attemps (ripping her left wing up severly. She was still ok). Mower got a new neighbor, Cowboy, a small green chrysalis on the top of the domain. In the next week Mower continued her happy life while Cowboy came into the world once again and this time, he emerged as a butterfly. Cowboy formed correctly and was released the next day which was (unfortunately) the day beloved Lawnmower died. My dad got a shovel and we dug a grave for her and placed a flower on top. From that day, I decided that I would raise more Monarchs and have currently released a bunch with more on the way and with 40 eggs on my milkweed curtesy of my good female monarch friends!
